今天在唱片店第一次听到Alkan的钢琴作品；想来在19世纪，此君与Liszt，Chopin，Hugo等人一道，也是巴黎艺术沙龙里灼手可热的人物；只是性情古怪，几度远离公众，潜心研究圣经与犹太法典；此外与Liszt不同，他不太用自己超凡的技术来宣扬自己的作品 -- 而他作品的难度与Liszt不分伯仲. 这也就是为什么无论他的生平还是他的作品都很少为世人所知的缘故.
他的唱片凤毛麟角也就不奇怪了，除了Smith，Ogdon等人以外，很少能看见顶级的钢琴家录制过Alkan的作品.据说Marc-André Hamelin在Hyperion录制的Alkan极为优秀，但没有听过.
在座哪位对他的唱片有所研究?

他不用超凡技术宣扬作品么？

是Hamelin弹Alkan的唱片；
正因为他的作品很难，而自己又不像Liszt一样大力宣传，因此在那个没有录音没有唱片的时代很难流传.

His work is much harder than Liszt’s.Around the turn of 20 centry，he was very popular，Rachmaninoff，Samanoff，Busoni these kind of people were absalutelly Alkan-fans.
Hamelin has great technique，but he doesn’t have the depth of music understanding，If you really want to hear some great playing，you should buy the EMI Ronald Smith recordings or RCA Lewenthal or Pearl Petri.
Also Smith wrote a very good biography on Alkan，it explains everything.

听说过Smith的那本书，只是没有读过；网上的资料对我已经足够了.
Smith对Alkan的推介可谓不遗余力，据说在他的80寿辰演奏会上还弹了数首.
另外听一个鬼佬说，Alkan是为了够书架顶上的一本圣经摔死的，不知是真是假.

That’s true.
Smith always includes some alkan in his every recaital，even now，at the age of 82.
