Maestro Zubin Mehta will be the conductor of the 2007 Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert. It will be the fourth time, after 1990, 1995 and 1998, which Mehta has stood on the podium of the orchestra for this major musical event. Mehta, born in Bombay, has for decades been closely associated with Vienna and the Philharmonic. After studying at the Vienna Music Academy, he conducted his first concert with our orchestra in 1961. Upon his 40th conducting anniversary in 2001 he was awarded an honorary membership in the Philharmonic.
